Alverna H. Alewel, 1915-2003, Concordia

Alverna H. Alewel, 88, of Concordia, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.

She was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Blackburn, a daughter of Theodore and Ella Mevius Rehkop. On Sept. 30, 1933, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Ernestville, she was married to Norbert "Nups" Alewel, who died Jan. 19, 1983.

Mrs. Alewel lived in Concordia most of her life. She moved to the Good Shepherd Home in 2000. She worked at Burlington Manufacturing, Central Drug Store and in the kitchen at the Good Shepherd Home. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia.

Surviving are two daughters, Beverly Brockman, of Emma, and Sharon Schuette, of Blue Springs; a sister, Ruth Kammeyer, of Concordia; a brother, Clarence Rehkop, of Independence; six grandchildren; and six great-granddaughters.

She was predeceased by a son in infancy; five brothers; and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lee Hagan officiating. Pallbearers will be Kim Brockman, Cody Brockman, Darin Schuette, Kevin Schuette, Chad Baldwin and Lew Schnakenberg. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Concordia, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Lutheran Good Shepherd Home in Concordia.
